ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series History |
The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series, announced in a press conference in December of 1997 at the Performance Racing Industry trade show, created a tremendous positive response. The positive response from the racing community, fans, media and marketing partners to professional touring series truck racing, where the industry leader is the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, confirms truck racing as a hot property. "Never in my 45-plus years in this sport have I seen such tremendous response to a new racing division," said ARCA Marketing and Touring Series Director Jim Clarke, who has spearheaded the project since inception.
The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series concept emerged as an evolution of the ARCA Pro-4 modified division, which has been a regional ARCA Touring Series since 1988. The new series complements the highly successful ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series of national championship stock cars, the open-wheel ARCA Lincoln Welders Midget Series, the ARCA Auto Value Parts Stores Figure-8 Series and sanctioning of weekly racing by the 47-year-old sanctioning body.
The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series, will also be known as the Great Lakes Region and will be comprised of racing activities in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. With the 1999 season still in the planning stages, this region has attracted contingency, point fund and special award sponsorship from many of the aftermarket racing-related manufacturers and retailers. Races have already been scheduled in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, the series’ first televised event was July 3 2000 at Flat Rock Speedway in a tape-delay telecast on Speedvision.
The huge response to the new concept has prompted ARCA officials to not only administrate the Midwestern Region, but also lay the groundwork for the ARCA Series West Region, encompassing California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, Utah and Arizona, administrated and promoted by Richard Michaud and John Valdez. The ARCA Truck Series Heartland Region covers Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and Colorado and will be under the leadership of Doug Thompson. Long term plans include the potential for a national championship runoff, featuring top teams from each region. We strongly feel that the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series, and the ARCA Truck Series regional divisions in their respective geographic areas, will become an integral part of the motorsports industry."
The interest from fans, drivers and sponsors on the internet as well as at the track and in the community is still the driving force behind motorsports today. The series top truck builder, Ed Yoak of ED & CO Racing Supplies, has seen strong interest from drivers and fans alike in the form of inquiries and orders. Ed finds the number of inquiries he has received most encouraging. "I have received calls from not only fans but also drivers in most of the competitive series in the motorsports community", explains Ed.
